Columbus Adult Education Center

Thank you for your interest in the Columbus Adult Education Center! We will be visiting for a tour of the center to learn how this vital resource in our community is dedicated to empowering with education and skill development. Donations are also encouraged; needed items are Cuties (mandarin oranges), string cheese, and boxes of snacks.

The Columbus Adult Education Center and Youth Programs began as the Columbus Branch Adult Center. It was originally created to meet the needs of a small congregation of Karen and Karenni speaking families within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Now we serve adults and youth from other countries.

Recognizing that the acquisition of English skills would be essential for non-English speakers, in order to acquire good jobs, earn GEDs or high school diplomas, and have the opportunity for higher education, local church members were determined to help. In March 2016, the Columbus Branch Adult Center was conceived by inner city missionaries, Jeffrey and Sonia Henkel. Local church leaders provided great support.
