From this trailhead, Footloose can be accessed after approximately a 1 mile hike.
TOOLS TO BRING: Metal rakes for removing loose rocks and gravel will be the most useful tool for the volunteers to bring. For those helping with Footloose, please bring pruners and loppers to cut back overgrowth and branches. MOTORIZED TOOLS ARE NOT PERMITTED. THIS INCLUDES ELECTRIC TOOLS.
CLOTHING AND GEAR: Closed-toe shoes or boots are required. Please no flip-flops or sandals. It is also recommended for volunteers to bring work gloves, eye protection/sunglasses, sunscreen and/or hats.
HYDRATION AND SNACKS: Please make sure each volunteer brings plenty of hydration. Portable snacks such as granola bars, fruit snacks and trail mix are also recommended. Please make sure if such snacks are brought, that wrappers are disposed properly.
WHAT NOT TO BRING: We ask that you please do not bring spade shovels to this event. (Most of the work that shovels would provide is not authorized by the city.) Bikes should also not be brought to the event. Volunteers will be expected to hike to their assigned trail section(s).
WHAT WORK IS PERMITTED:
● Clearing trails of loose rocks, gravel and other debris*
● Cutting back overgrowth of branches, sage and any other encroaching plants or weeds with non-motorized tools
WHAT WORK IS NOT PERMITTED:
● Digging up embedded rocks
● Digging drainage ditches
● Creating berms, jumps, rollers or rock gardens
● Boulder/Rock rolling
*Please be mindful of other trails/switchbacks when removing rocks/gravel/debris so that what is removed does not spill on to other trails.
Thank you so much for all the wonderful work your team of volunteers will be providing. We hope that you will all feel a sense of ownership as you help provide this much-needed work!
