John Flores
“John Flores, born and raised in Victoria, Texas, now calls Herriman, Utah, his home after living in California. He’s embraced Utah’s unique blend of indoor and outdoor activities, which perfectly suit his active lifestyle. Whether it’s cheering for his favorite teams or playing sports himself, John’s love for competition shines through. Baseball and football are his top sports, but his real passion lies in coaching fastpitch softball. From high school teams to competitive and collegiate levels, John finds immense satisfaction in mentoring young athletes and helping them grow both on and off the field.
John’s professional journey is as dynamic as his personal life. He currently works as a Project Manager and Program Coordinator for the federal government, where he oversees a variety of complex, large-scale projects that span the country. Before stepping into this role, John served in both the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army, with deployments in Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. His military service helped shape his approach to leadership, decision-making, and teamwork—skills that continue to serve him well in his current role.
The transition from military service to project management was a natural one for John, as both roles emphasize mission-driven work and making an impact. He finds purpose in what he does, knowing that the projects he leads benefit the American public. “It’s the people, the mission, and the challenges that make this job rewarding,” John says. “Seeing complex projects come to fruition and understanding their benefits to others is a huge part of why I love my work.” His dedication to his job is evident, as he continually seeks ways to improve and contribute to the greater good.
John draws inspiration from his family and former mentors, all of whom have instilled in him a strong sense of work ethic and a commitment to standing up for what’s right. “Their belief in doing the right thing, day in and day out, inspires me to do the same,” he explains. This mindset has carried him through life’s inevitable challenges, which he prefers to see as opportunities for growth. Reflecting on his experiences, John believes that hardships are a shared experience that we can overcome together. He often thinks back to 9/11, a day that holds deep meaning for him, as an example of how resilience and unity can lead to strength.
Looking ahead, John is excited about the future, both personally and professionally. He continues to explore new challenges in his career while maintaining his involvement in the sports community. His advice to anyone interested in pursuing project management is simple: “Investigate it. There are so many opportunities, and plenty of resources to help you learn more about the field. It’s rewarding work, and there’s always room to grow.” He encourages anyone curious about the field to ask questions and take advantage of the courses available to get started.
John is deeply grateful for the chance to be part of the Herriman community, both in his professional capacity and through his involvement in local activities. He remains committed to giving back, whether through his work or his coaching, and looks forward to continuing to make a positive impact in the years to come.”
