“Nabeela Masani, a proud graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce and Economics, has traveled a remarkable journey from Mumbai, India, to Herriman, Utah. As an Indian Muslim, she values her cultural roots, infusing her daily life with traditions, particularly her love for cooking. Having been married for 13 years and raising an 11-year-old son, Nabeela’s life in Herriman revolves around family, her home, and the friendships she’s cultivated along the way.

Nabeela’s path to building a fulfilling life in the U.S. was not without challenges. When she first moved to the States, she faced an overwhelming sense of loneliness and isolation. “When I came to the U.S., I didn’t have many friends, and I felt very lonely,” she recalls. Without the close community of friends and family she was accustomed to in Mumbai, it was a difficult adjustment. For the first year, homesickness weighed heavily on her. She struggled to settle into her new surroundings, unsure of how to find a sense of belonging. But she didn’t give up. Nabeela continued to reach out, determined to create connections. Over time, her persistence paid off, and she now enjoys a vibrant community made up of 30 families who are an essential part of her life. Her journey serves as a reminder that building relationships and finding one’s place in a new country takes time, but it is possible with patience and determination.

Today, Nabeela cherishes her life in Herriman, a city that has become her second home. She appreciates the natural beauty and local amenities, from the parks to the rec center, and especially loves the convenience of nearby stores like Walmart and Costco. These simple pleasures make her feel more connected to her surroundings. Herriman’s welcoming atmosphere and family-oriented community have allowed her to carve out a life filled with the support she once longed for.

Beyond her personal connections, Nabeela takes great pride in her talents, particularly her cooking. “I am most proud of my cooking,” she shares, highlighting a skill that not only brings her joy but also allows her to share her culture with others. Her love of food and cooking has become a way to connect with those around her and bridge cultural divides.

Through her experiences, Nabeela has grown from someone who once struggled with low self-esteem and homesickness into a confident, empathetic individual. The struggles she faced after moving to the U.S. have shaped her into a bolder, more outgoing person, transforming her from an introvert into someone who loves people and has a great sense of humor. She credits her father as a major inspiration in her life, a figure who helped her build resilience in tough times.

As she continues to grow and thrive, Nabeela’s goals remain simple yet meaningful. She hopes to master English fluency and continue to develop the confidence she has gained over the years.
